Not an Introvert? Not an Extrovert? What Are You?!

Have you ever taken a personality assessment test online, at work, or at school?  Maybe you've just filled out one of those short quizzes in Oprah or Chateleine to find out what your "type" is.  And when you read the description of your unique personality style, you feel like there's someone out there that finally understands you.  Some Wizard behind the curtain saying "girl, I see you."   Man I love that feeling.  I love it so much that I think I have taken every assessment that may have ever been invented.  Myers Briggs, Understand Me by Jordan Peterson, Enneagram, [...]

A Beautiful (But Disappointing) Valentine’s Story

I find people are often divided into two camps when it comes to how they approach a situation in which the outcome is uncertain. Camp A:  OMG!  This is going to be so AMAZING!!  I can't wait!!! (already planning outfits) Camp B:  Hmm, let's just wait and see.  (arms crossed, eyes squinting, knowing look on face) The classic Optimist vs Pessimist, Dreamer vs Realist.  I sit pretty squarely in Camp A and am often gently advised by my Camp B husband not to get too excited.  What?? And lose out on the sweet high of serotonin pulsing through my nerve [...]

KI’s Story: My Precious Dancing Queen

My precious Dancing Queen, Oh my darling, how you learned to dance for your dinner over the years. As young as three you would tuck your chubby little bear paw feet into your ballet slippers and the show would begin.  As if you were trained in the womb to give the people what they wanted, what they needed.  Amidst the yelling, the fighting, the crying you would swirl around them until they got caught up in your tornado of joy.   It wouldn't last for long, but at least for suppertime, there would be laughter. By 13, you traded in your [...]

Battling Distractions: Sparkly Things

"You are like a child, I just have to distract you long enough until you forget about what's got you down". Wise (and pretty hilarious) words from my big sister.  A few weeks ago I was in the depths of a sweet state of Woe is Me.  As is always the case when we find ourselves here, I had good reason dammit!  Having just learned that I will likely need surgery for tears in both my shoulder and hip due to a car accident last year, bummed because I can't go to yoga (aka: saviour) until my body is fixed, [...]

And What Would You Know About That?!

It's possible I was the recipient of someone's "outside voice" at a party this past weekend. Or maybe she is simply one of those rare (and totally awesome) people who says exactly what is on her mind. I was having a lovely chat with the hostess and one of her guests when the conversation steered towards my coaching business and the hostess was curious about who it is that I gear my practice to. I said that it seems people who are drawn to me are women entrepreneurs searching for life's Holy Trifecta...a booming business, a happy marriage, and a [...]
