Not an Introvert? Not an Extrovert? What Are You?!

Have you ever taken a personality assessment test online, at work, or at school?  Maybe you've just filled out one of those short quizzes in Oprah or Chateleine to find out what your "type" is.  And when you read the description of your unique personality style, you feel like there's someone out there that finally understands you.  Some Wizard behind the curtain saying "girl, I see you."   Man I love that feeling.  I love it so much that I think I have taken every assessment that may have ever been invented.  Myers Briggs, Understand Me by Jordan Peterson, Enneagram, [...]

Super Sensitive? That’s Your Superpower!

Not unlike most newborns,  the first thing I did on this planet was cry.  Little did I know this state would be one I would wrestle with throughout much of my life.  As a kid I don't think people outside of my family would have described me as  "sensitive".  I learned pretty young that you had to be tough on the playground.  But at home, I would free the dam and let the waterworks flow.  I'm sure out of loving concern that my sensitivity could not possibly serve me in this often cruel world, my parents would plead with me [...]

KI’s Story: My Precious Dancing Queen

My precious Dancing Queen, Oh my darling, how you learned to dance for your dinner over the years. As young as three you would tuck your chubby little bear paw feet into your ballet slippers and the show would begin.  As if you were trained in the womb to give the people what they wanted, what they needed.  Amidst the yelling, the fighting, the crying you would swirl around them until they got caught up in your tornado of joy.   It wouldn't last for long, but at least for suppertime, there would be laughter. By 13, you traded in your [...]

Battling Distractions: Sparkly Things

"You are like a child, I just have to distract you long enough until you forget about what's got you down". Wise (and pretty hilarious) words from my big sister.  A few weeks ago I was in the depths of a sweet state of Woe is Me.  As is always the case when we find ourselves here, I had good reason dammit!  Having just learned that I will likely need surgery for tears in both my shoulder and hip due to a car accident last year, bummed because I can't go to yoga (aka: saviour) until my body is fixed, [...]

What I Learned From Babe Cancer

On the heels of my last Coach's Corner when I spoke of reaching some realm of spiritual enlightenment which resulted in finally deciding to stop telling my body to $#@% off...I come to you with this. I guess my body prefers it when I sling obscenities because after I chose to cradle it like a baby and sing lullabies I get hit with the line we only want to hear in movies "you have cancer". Crap. Well, I guess I have to give that pain in the neck some credit as without it I never would have had the CT [...]
