Hiring staff is likely one of the most critical steps to ensuring success in your business. The interview process can be daunting as we contemplate bringing in this often complete stranger to our organization where they will have access to many (and sometimes all) aspects of our business. In a small organization where you, the owner/operator, are sometimes the only person who conducts this critical process, it gets especially tricky. If you have ever experienced hiring someone you were 100% positive was the right candidate only to learn after months of training and lost resources of time and money that he or she was not a fit, you can appreciate why this task of building a team can be so difficult. You may enlist the assistance of your staff to help you with this decision but is it really just a second opinion you are looking for? Or would you prefer to have that second opinion come from someone that can provide invaluable insight into who this candidate is and if they would be a fit in your company?
I began using a personality assessment tool in my business years ago that has literally transformed how I hire and resulted in dramatically less turnover and a simply awesome team. I experienced True Colors® myself at a seminar in 1997 and believed in it so much I became a certified facilitator. I initially used it with my own staff and with business clients to provide a way to better understand each other and our customers. It wasn’t until a few years ago I decided to start using it in my interview process. It took a little extra time (about another hour) but the payoff was amazing. I was able to glean such insight into this individual that may become an important part of my organization. And one of the best parts: if I have to turn down the candidate, they often thank me for this “gift” they can now take into their lives. Not only does this make one of the less desirable parts of my job better they leave with a positive impression of my company.
Here’s a little more information is taken from the True Colors® website:
True Colors™ is a model for understanding yourself and others based on your personality temperament. The colors of Orange, Green, Blue and Gold are used to differentiate the four central personality styles of True Colors™.
Each of us has a combination of these True Colors that make up our personality spectrum, usually with one of the styles being the most dominant.
Identifying your personality and the personalities of others using True Colors provides you with insights into different motivations, actions and communication approaches.
True Colors works because it is based on true principles and easy to remember and use – in all kinds of circumstances – from personal relationships to professional success.
The 2nd Interview Process:
I begin by conducting the True Colors personality assessment tool with you (or your manager, or whoever will be in charge of hiring). This will give you a clear idea of the process I’ll be using with your potential hires (and you’ll love all the cool stuff you’ll learn about yourself). We’ll also spend some time discussing your business and who your ideal candidate is. This will help me to focus on what is important to you during the True Colors assessment. After the “second interviews”, we’ll sit down and review the results. Location of interviews is up to you – it can be at your place of business, a local coffee shop, or at my office in Tsawwassen. I also conduct interviews by phone or Zoom.
Includes owner/manager assessment plus assessment and review for one candidate.
Each additional candidate is $295 (includes review).
Initial meeting: 1.5-2 hrs
2nd interview: 1-1.5 hrs
Follow-up review: 1/2 hrs
Travel costs only apply outside of the Lower Mainland.

I am a retail warrior, and I have the battle wounds to prove it. For twenty years, I owned and ran two fashion retail stores. I made a million mistakes (that I learned from), I lead a team of insanely amazing, talented women that were the envy of many of my competitors, and then I sold my business to one of those amazing women and the legacy of my blood, sweat and tears continues. My joy is to now work with other retailers and help them create their own legacy. To become Retail Warriors.
My clients include those just entering the retail world and those who have been in the field for years but looking for fresh insight or inspiration. If you want to be a Retail Warrior, this is what I can help you do:

✓ Hire the right people (and fire, when needed).
