Not an Introvert? Not an Extrovert? What Are You?!

Have you ever taken a personality assessment test online, at work, or at school?  Maybe you've just filled out one of those short quizzes in Oprah or Chateleine to find out what your "type" is.  And when you read the description of your unique personality style, you feel like there's someone out there that finally understands you.  Some Wizard behind the curtain saying "girl, I see you."   Man I love that feeling.  I love it so much that I think I have taken every assessment that may have ever been invented.  Myers Briggs, Understand Me by Jordan Peterson, Enneagram, [...]

You Are Not Smart Enough!

I've just about had enough of the "not-enough-isms" we experience in our society.  I hear it every day from clients, friends, family and often from that little jerk in my own head that loves to whisper not so sweet nothings in my ear.   Here's my "Letterman" Top Ten Not-Enough-isms: you're not pretty enough you're not rich enough you're not thin enough you're not talented enough you're not young enough you're not old enough you're not funny enough you're not creative enough you're not fit enough And the number one Not -Enough-ism I hear is... A Beautiful (But Disappointing) Valentine’s Story

I find people are often divided into two camps when it comes to how they approach a situation in which the outcome is uncertain. Camp A:  OMG!  This is going to be so AMAZING!!  I can't wait!!! (already planning outfits) Camp B:  Hmm, let's just wait and see.  (arms crossed, eyes squinting, knowing look on face) The classic Optimist vs Pessimist, Dreamer vs Realist.  I sit pretty squarely in Camp A and am often gently advised by my Camp B husband not to get too excited.  What?? And lose out on the sweet high of serotonin pulsing through my nerve [...]

Super Sensitive? That’s Your Superpower!

Not unlike most newborns,  the first thing I did on this planet was cry.  Little did I know this state would be one I would wrestle with throughout much of my life.  As a kid I don't think people outside of my family would have described me as  "sensitive".  I learned pretty young that you had to be tough on the playground.  But at home, I would free the dam and let the waterworks flow.  I'm sure out of loving concern that my sensitivity could not possibly serve me in this often cruel world, my parents would plead with me [...]

KI’s Story: My Precious Dancing Queen

My precious Dancing Queen, Oh my darling, how you learned to dance for your dinner over the years. As young as three you would tuck your chubby little bear paw feet into your ballet slippers and the show would begin.  As if you were trained in the womb to give the people what they wanted, what they needed.  Amidst the yelling, the fighting, the crying you would swirl around them until they got caught up in your tornado of joy.   It wouldn't last for long, but at least for suppertime, there would be laughter. By 13, you traded in your [...]
